Krach Leadership Center is located on Third Street and North Martin Jischke Drive on the campus of Purdue University. The 81,500 SF building provides academic resources, leadership development programs and student organization meeting space to support both residential and academic life for students.
Purdue University set the goal of achieving LEED®NCv3 Silver Certification during the schematic design phase in 2011, in alignment with the university’s sustainability guidelines. Platinum Earth was an integral part of the project team from the beginning of Schematic Design in collaboration with architecture firms, Scholer Corporation and Sasaki as well as Loftus Engineering. Platinum Earth provided full LEED consulting services – from the team-led Eco-Charette, design reviews and LEED-specific specification sections, through site visits, project meetings, and LOL coordination and submission.
Among the many sustainability achievements, Krach Leadership Center is 32.4% more energy efficient than a comparable building meeting basic energy codes. It received Exemplary Performance in Regional and Recycled Materials. The project also received an Innovation in Design credit for its implementation of lamps with reduced mercury content, providing an average of 20.75 picograms per lumen hour – well below the 80 required to meet the credit requirements.
Platinum Earth is proud that Krach Leadership Center exceeded initial design objectives, receiving LEED Gold certification in January of 2016.
