The Twin Lakes Recreation Center (TLRC) is located in Bloomington, Indiana. The building was built in 1998 and purchased by the City of Bloomington in 2009. TLRC is a 2-story, 100,000 SF multi-functional sports facility which contains indoor soccer fields, regulation basketball courts, a suspended track, and weight/fitness area.
In 2005, the City of Bloomington formally adopted a Green Building Program Ordinance which requires the city to evaluate all existing buildings to determine if they can be brought up to LEED® EB:O+M Silver level certification where applicable. Buildings are reviewed via Cost-Benefit analysis with a maximum ROI term of 10 years.
Platinum Earth, along with engineering firm Applied Engineering Services (AES), was brought in to apply its expertise in performing a LEED Feasibility Study of the TLRC comprising of on-site meetings with staff and owners, an ASHRAE Level 1 Energy Audit, proposed LEED EB:O+M checklist, and a LEED Action Plan that divided the various credit requirements into varying cost categories (Low-Cost, Mid-Cost, High-Cost).
